"Mademoiselle
A fragrance from hell
My favorite brand
In all of the land
It's just a cheap smell
Mademoiselle."

KOVAKS
(CHEAP SMELL)
DESIGN & ENTERTAINMENT
This project was focused on designing and illustrating with the software program Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe After Effect. The objective was to demonstrate a basic understanding of digital illustration concepts through the design of a Rock/Gig Poster. (concept/ideas, typography, composition, craftsmanship)
SKILLS
-
Adobe Illustrator
-
Adobe After Effect.
FINAL PRODUCT CONTENT:
For my project, I had to select a lesser-known music artist or group to design a tour poster for. I decided to focus on Sharon Kovaks, a Dutch singer, and create promotional materials for her upcoming tour in Paris in 2026.
RESTRICTIONS:
No use of typefaces that are on the banned list. I was supposed to be guided to either find the right typeface for my poster or create my own typeface style through illustration.
SIZE:
24x15 inches
COLOR
Must have a limited color palette. (Simulate silk screen print). So, I decided to choose, Red, Black &White as my main colors.
PROCESS
Conducted Research, Provided Sketches, main design, mockups.
ICONOGRAPHY
To captivate my audience with a mystery story, I decided to blend the metaphor of a beautiful flower with a pleasant scent with the sinister imagery of a snake, aiming for a darker twist by turning the good smell into something cheap. Additionally, I incorporated the concept of a crown with a snake's tongue as a metaphor for individuals with dark souls. To evoke a musical atmosphere, I replaced the crown's eye with a cassette.
STYLE
Kovaks' music is Pop/Rock, but for my design, I chose a psychiatric theme. I found inspiration in the Art Nouveau style, but simplified it to be closer to silhouettes.
INTEREST
I wanted to make something eye-catching and make people think, drawing them into the story behind the pictures.
ACTION
To create an action, I decided to use a decorative, iconographic and symbolic style, with a negative and positive space, which i think can create a visual interest.
