This gig poster, inspired by Kovacs’ Cheap Smell, explores the contrast between outer beauty and inner decay. It reflects those who absorb the poison of their environment and echo it back into the world. Symbols like the snake, claws, and fading flowers convey this cycle. This poster was created for the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in 2018 during the brutal war between Armenia and Turkey, when many people were killed, displaced, lost their homes, or went missing, while others fought against hunger. UNHCR was seeking help for Nagorno-Karabakh refugees in Armenia. As an Armenian who was born in a family whose ancestor was displaced from Armenia to Iran and a family who saw genocide, I felt responsible to have at least one poster with the genocide theme for my people.
